A research project that requires support from St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney in the form of access to participants, tissue or data but does not involve the conduct of research at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney is not required to undergo the STE/SSA application process and can be reviewed via the Access Request Pathway. 

Suitability for Review via the Access Request Pathway

Research projects suitable for review via an access request include projects that only involve one or more of the following activities:

  • participant recruitment through posters, leaflets and letter of invitation but not recruitment through direct contact with potential participants or enrolment
  • distribution of surveys and questionnaires but not collation and analysis of responses at that St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney
  • access to data or tissue held at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney but not processing or analysis at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney

Minimum Requirements for Access Request Submission

A completed Access Request Form must be submitted to the St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney Research Office at SVHS.research@svha.org.au for review before authorisation can be granted..

The applicant must provide the following information, at a minimum:

  • Project title and short title
  • Relevant project identifiers
  • CPI name and contact information
  • Name of study sponsor, if applicable
  • Name of HREC reviewing the research project
  • Proof of HREC approval
  • Summary of the resources/services being requested
  • The proposed process for accessing those resources/services
  • Attached letters or emails confirming the support of each facility, location or service (written evidence of support). Applicants must show proof of support from the Head of Department(s) where advertising materials will be posted
  • Copies of all documents to be distributed through the facilities, locations or services within St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney. All documents must clearly state the approving HREC, approval reference and date.

There is no fee for an Access Request.
