St Vincent’s Biorepository – Advancing Research Through Sample Preservation
Established in 2010, the AMR Biorepository is a state-of-the-art facility designed to support biomedical research and clinical trials across the Health Innovation Precinct. The purpose-built repository ensures the integrity and safety of valuable biological samples and adheres to strict workplace health and safety standards.
As the lead partner for cryogenics infrastructure in the Precinct, we provide essential support for ground-breaking medical research, contributing to better health outcomes for patients worldwide.Â
Key features of our Biorepository include:Â
- A diverse collection of blood, tissue, and derivatives from various research projects, with a particular focus on HIV, viral hepatitis, and other infectious diseases.
- Centralised, secure storage for researchers and collaborators.Â
- High-quality sample management for improved research outcomes.Â
- Ethical handling of human tissues, respecting donor privacy and consent, supported by policy endorsement. Â
- Streamlined administrative processes to facilitate collaboration.Â
Capacity and Service:Â
- Four large vapour-phase liquid nitrogen tanks, holding upwards of 340,000 vials, and over twenty ultra-cold freezers, holding up to 816,000 vials, allowing long-term storage of over 1 million vials from around 250 collections.
- 150sqm purpose-built access-controlled facility with design features and controls for atmospheric monitoring and safety using compressed cryogenic gases, wireless remote temperature monitoring and alarm systems.
- Biospecimens can be processed onsite or received from off-site processing facilities.
- A team of experts to manage daily Biorespository operations, including biospecimen processing, inventory, storage, shipping, logistics, and management of confidential data.
